IOL Netcom Selects Verimatrix to Provide Security for On-Demand IPTV

Verimatrix (News - Alert) has announced that IOL Netcom has selected the company as the content security provider for its on-demand IPTV
service. This will be India’s first IP-based on-demand television service for more than 250,000 subscribers.
Beyond deploying the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System, IOL will also be offering premium, MPEG-4 content through subscriber’s home PC via Verimatrix’s ViewRight PC Player. This device is the only independently-audited, secure PC player for IPTV (News - Alert) on the market.
IOL plans to offer the PC as a viable second screen in a subscriber’s home in order to provide a cost-effective option to view its on-demand movie library and 150 broadcast channels. ViewRight is an integrated component of VCAS and provides the same level of content security and revenue protection as with dedicated set-top box (STB) equipment.
"Content is king when it comes to attracting subscribers to new services like IPTV. Verimatrix proved to be the best content security choice to not only meet the content owners' requirements for MPEG-4 programming, but enable a new business model through the PC," said Siddhartha Srivastava, president of IOL Netcom, in a Monday statement.
"Expanding delivery options to the PC will assist in customer acquisition, reduce installation resources and allow the customer to experience our 'Anything, Anytime, Anywhere' promise."
IOL will deploy Verimatrix’s VideoMark as an additional layer of protection. This user-specific, forensic watermarking technology will be launched in conjunction with the ViewRight PC Player.
This extra security measure helps to satisfy the strict requirements of content owners and protects the “analog hole.” Pirated copies can be traced to a unique user identifier and not just the network operator. As a result, content owners are assured of protection that extends beyond the digital network.
"IOL is implementing leading-edge methods to penetrate the Indian market with compelling IPTV services,” said Steve Oetegenn (News - Alert), chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix, in Monday’s statement.
“Because we support a diverse set of clients through software-based solutions, we have the flexibility to respond to their unique network challenges. IOL is an excellent example of putting our layered content security approach into practice."
IOL's IPTV services have been deployed in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore. Verimatrix is one of the platform components used in all of these deployments. The company’s extensive partner ecosystem allowed for easy integration and interoperability with all system components.
The demand for IPTV continues to grow as consumers are flocking to solutions that allow all services to put bundled into one package. The attraction to on-demand solutions is also becoming more commonplace as individuals flock to such flexibility.
Along with these perks, providers must also be able to guarantee secure access. While IPTV provides a great revenue source, without proper measures in place, it can create more of a problem for the company and its customers than the benefit it was meant to provide. Verimatrix can help providers to avoid such pitfalls to ensure the experience is a great one.
