RTE NL, an Irish communications network operator, has selected Net Insight’s (News - Alert) Nimbra platform for its latest digital terrestrial TV (DTT) distribution network.

 

Net Insight, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, develops and markets various fiber-optic transport solutions for media, IP, broadcast, and digital terrestrial TV networks. Nimbra is Net Insight’s network product brand. The platform uses networking equipment based on the Next Generation SDH/Sonet (NG SDH/Sonet) technology. It has the ability to transfer high-speed high-quality data, video, and telephony.

 

RTE NL is distributes and transmits national program services for Irish TV and radio broadcasters. It first chose a Net Insight solution last November: equipment to interconnect its regional transmitter stations. Digital TV is now becoming a reality in Ireland, and RTE NL is going to manage the entire DTT network.

 

DTT promises a competitive TV network with better picture and sound quality along with plenty of channels. The most advantageous feature of DTT is its low operational costs and the better utilization of the spectrum available for the service. Thus DTT can allot more space to other channels and additional services to the users.

 

Nimbra platform will distribute TV signals (DVB-T), DAB radio, data and various analogue and FM radio channels from existing broadcasters to 10 transmitters and many repeater sites in Ireland. Nimbra will also install its Time Transfer feature for GPS-free time synchronization and will facilitate an easy migration to Single Frequency Network (SFN) architecture.

 

Net Insight’s Nimbra Vision management platform will manage the entire network. It has been provided with additional security features such as the “disaster recovery” for fast restoration of RTE NL’s broadcast services.
