Panasonic's Home Theater System Includes Blu-ray Disc Player

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Panasonic (News - Alert) Consumer Electronics Company, a provider of high-definition (HD) entertainment, has announced that its home theater in a box (HTiB) system with an integrated Blu-ray Disc player will hit markets in spring this year. The model, SC-BT100 will be a complement to a high-definition, flat panel large screen TV, the company assured.

The player has media friendly capabilities and is suitable for iPod and includes features like advanced integrated dock for recharging iPods and for playing music and video on the home theater system. It displays audio tracks and menus on the TV screen, and can be operated conveniently using a remote control.

The SD Memory card slot allows playback of digital images or original video footage in standard as well as High Definition AVCHD format. The optical input offers a digital 5.1 channel audio connection for a set-top box, digital video recorder and game system.

“The Panasonic SC-BT100 home theater system is the best of both worlds,” stated Paul Sabo, national marketing manager for Panasonic Home Audio.

It combines the installation ease and user-friendly operation of an HTiB, plus the features and performance of high-end audio/video components, including full HD 1080p resolution Blu-ray video, wireless rear speakers and 7.1 channel upgradeability.

This is the simple, ideal solution for those embarking on the high definition home theater experience, added Sabo.

Panasonic allows for the upgrading of the SC-BT100 to a wireless full 7.1 channel sound by adding two side speakers and a transceiver. The device comes equipped with Viera Link HDAVI control, HDMI digital A/V connectivity which offers one-touch operation of Panasonic High Definition TV and all other components.

The Blu-ray Disc player is a Final Standard Profile with advanced functions like “Bonus View” and audio mixing, allowing users to change the sound from main to sub windows. Both audio and video deliveries are good and its built-in receiver is compatible with audio codecs like Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, DTS (News - Alert)-HD High Resolution, DTS-HD Master Audio and Linear PCM.

Another key function is the Kelton-design subwoofer, which has a driver attached to the cabinet. In addition, the radiator reduces vibration and noise when playing dynamic bass and the speakers at the front and center have a diaphragm made of bamboo which has a tighter intertwined fiber to offer rigidity and accuracy. For users to enjoy surround sound without disturbing others, the system has “Whisper-mode Surround” which provides surround sound even at low volume levels.
