Actiontec Unveils Three-in-One 54 Mbps Wireless DSL Modem
By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Actiontec Electronics (News - Alert) announced today that it’s launching a new 54 megabits per second Wireless DSL
modem to a mass merchant retail channel.
The new modem, which provides residential DSL customers with connectivity options for their home network, gives customers to Actiontec’s feature set, for what the company calls “far less than the cost of a basic leased modem from their DSL provider.”
Now available at Best Buy, the new modem, three products in one, eliminates device clutter in the home network by combining a full-rate ADSL/ADSL2+ modem, 4 port Ethernet
switch, and 802.11g wireless router into a single device.
Additionally, Actiontec’s new GT724R, also available at Best Buy, offers a full-rate ADSL/ADSL2+ modem and a 4 port switch for those customers not needing integrated wireless capabilities.
“By offering the GT724WGR and GT724R modems at mass market retailers, we’re able to give residential consumers a more cost-efficient and versatile alternative to the basic leased modem that’s typically equipped with a single Ethernet port. Having one wired interface to one computer is just not a realistic solution for most households,” said Michael Ehlenberger, vice president, channel sales at Actiontec.
“Our new modems offer a great upgrade path for a wide variety of home networking needs – whether consumers are looking to add WLAN
to their home, upgrade their old 802.11b router, or just want to get rid of the clutter of separate boxes on their desk,” Ehlenberger said.
Actiontec Electronics develops broadband connectivity and broadband-powered solutions that simplify and enrich the digital life – delivering a unified experience that encompasses communications, entertainment and home management, according to the company.
Actiontec offers IPTV (News - Alert)-capable broadband home gateways for bringing IP-based video services into the home, DSL modems, wireless networking devices, routers and digital entertainment devices.
The company says its products are easy to install, manage, and use, and are sold through retail channels and broadband service providers.
Both the newly launched modems have been tested to ensure full compatibility with all major DSL providers, giving retail customers the assurance needed that their new modem will work regardless of their DSL provider, according to the company.
