Chyron Helps News Station with HDTV Transition
By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor
KMOV, a Belo Corp.-owned CBS affiliate based in Missouri, announced today that it’s chosen Chyron for two HD/SD-switchable HyperX2 graphics systems.
The company chose “Channel Box,” Chyron’s HD/SD-switchable channel branding and automated promo system, a “CAMIO” news graphic management solution, and “iSQ,” Chyron’s remote monitoring and playout application.
Installed in KMOV’s studio control room, the two HyperX2 graphics systems are generating the station’s HD graphics for local news programs, as well as for banners and tickers. Chyron’s Channel Box will be used for downstream graphics on the station’s HD Channel, according to the company. The system is expected to provide channel branding, IDs, schools closings and severe weather information and more.
Walt Nichol, director of technology, broadcast media at the TV station, said that the Chyron systems are integral to their transition to HD local news. KMOV developed a complete new graphics package for the station as part of the HD transition and the HyperX2 systems were key to developing that new look.
Nichol said that his company has a long history using Chyron graphics products and feels comfortable with its history of reliability and support.
Kevin Prince, Chyron’s chief operating officer, said his company was delighted to announce this sale to KMOV. He said that Chyron’s workflow provides a seamless transition to HD and this latest installation further highlights Chyron’s commitment to the US market.
Belo Corp. is one of the nation’s largest pure-play publicly traded television companies, with annual revenue of approximately $775 million, according to the company.
Chyron delivers sophisticated graphics offerings that include Online, Chyron’s AXIS Graphics online content creation software, HD/SD switchable on-air graphics systems, clip servers, channel branding and telestration systems, graphic asset management and XMP integration solutions, and the award-winning WAPSTR mobile phone newsgathering application, as well as digital signage.
The company recently announced the election of Roger Ogden, Robert Rayne and Peter Frey to its Board of Directors at the Company’s Annual Meeting of Stockholders. The Company’s incumbent directors were also reelected at the event.
