LG Electronics and Control4 Team on HDTV Automation Solution for Hospitality Industry
By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Control4 Corporation and LG Electronics (News - Alert) are co-developing an integrated automation system for high-definition television (HDTV) sets that will allow hotel guests to control lighting, room temperature, draperies and entertainment systems through the television with a single remote control.
The companies are creating a new control card, based on Control4’s operating system, that will be integrated into LG’s hospitality HDTVs through the interface port, eliminating the need for a separate controller box.
“Integrating our automation operating platform with LG hospitality TVs represents a new chapter for Control4 and the industry,” said Will West, CEO at Control4. “There is no better screen of choice than your TV for managing all the automation features and functionality that Control4 enables.”
Richard Lewis, senior vice president of technology for the research and development subsidiary at LG U.S. said that with the inroads Control4 has made in the lodging industry, this is the right time to collaborate on an integrated solution that will deliver a “superior guest experience, with more features and convenience than a set-top box approach.”
Control4 is designed for use in digital homes and hotels. The company provides one-touch control of both new and existing electronic systems. Its software and hardware products enable home theater and television control, multi-room music, smart lighting, temperature control, and security integration, through a range of on-site and over-the-Web remote control technology.
Also, Lorica will be including Control4 solutions as an option to its customers purchasing Room Center, a fully managed converged network specifically designed for the hospitality industry.
