Concurrent Launches Next Generation of Time-Shifted TV

Concurrent, a provider of real-time Linux-based computing solutions, announced the latest advancement in time-shifted television. With the help of resilient real-time content distribution, the company’s Real Time Pitcher 2000 (RTP2000) solution ensures no loss of video captures. The loss of video capture is a common factor these days which is caused because of network or component failures.

The primary function of the RTP2000 is to convert unicast FTP to reliable multicast, where information is sent from one or more sources to one or more points. In unicast FTP, information sent from a single source to a single point. The RTP2000 takes the incoming video content and “pitches” it to several Real Time Catchers (RTC). The video servers then pull and stream selected content to the end-user from this. Its resilient real-time content distribution, which significantly increases content ingest success rates, distinguishes this latest generation of content pitcher from its competitors.

Concurrent is a major player in time-shifted television technology, with 65% market-share in cable systems offering Start-Over. The company is once again showcasing its leadership in advanced on-demand applications with the launch of the RTP2000.

Concurrent reports that cable operators, particularly Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable and Bright House Networks have already started showing significant interest in this latest enhancement to Concurrent’s time-shifted television products. Both Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, offer Start Over utilizing Concurrent equipment and software.

“When we launched Start Over in our Tampa division in January, we partnered with Concurrent specifically because of its superiority in time-shifted television technology,” said Jeff Chen, senior vice president at Bright House’s advanced technology division, in a statement. “From the very beginning, we have always planned to build Start Over as a fully resilient service. Now with the launch of the RTP2000, we can further enhance our customer experience by ensuring no loss of Start Over content when any component fails.”
