Greece's OTE Selects On Demand Group for IPTV Service

On Demand Group (ODG), a subsidiary of SeaChange International (News - Alert) will provide an outsourced video-on-demand solution to the Hellenic Telecommunication Organization S.A. (OTE).

OTE, Greece’s largest telco with five million fixed lines and over 700,000 broadband customers, has plans to extend its service offering and roll-out IPTV services to its customer base.

“We are very excited to be working with OTE on its forthcoming VOD service in Greece,” said Tony Kelly, managing director, ODG.

“This deal with OTE meets our topline objective of expanding our business into new markets. It demonstrates our core competency of being able to bring compelling content services to market rapidly to give the operator maximum leverage over competition, and also utilizes our world leading skills for driving on-demand penetration and usage,” explained Kelly.

ODG is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SeaChange, specializing in the development and management of transactional television services.

ODG provides customers such as Virgin Media, Kabel Deutschland, Unity Media, Telekom Austria (News - Alert) and others with end-to-end content solutions, combining services management and technology with speed to market.

In 1998, ODG launched the Front Row television pay-per-view movie service over the U.K. cable network which became the largest pay-per-view movie service outside of the U.S. with, to date, more than 45 million paid viewings and over £115 million in revenue.

In 2004, ODG formed FilmFlex, a video-on-demand (VOD) movie service with Sony Pictures and The Walt Disney Company as joint venture partners, which was launched over U.K. cable networks in 2005.

ODG is Virgin Media’s content management partner for their successful TV on-demand service, which is the largest on-demand service outside of the U.S. with over 36 million views per month.

SeaChange International is a provider of software applications, services and integrated solutions for video-on-demand (VOD), digital advertising, and content acquisition monetization and management. Its powerful open VOD and advertising software and scaleable hardware enable cable and telco operators, as well as broadcasters, to provide new on-demand services and to gain greater efficiencies in advertising and content delivery.
