Brazilian Market to Experience Rapid Growth due to Mobile Penetration and IPTV Services

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Independent research organization Pyramid Research has released its latest report named “Brazilian Operators Target (News - Alert) Diverse and Growing Telecom Market with Creative Offers”, that says that Brazil will experience mobile penetration with an increase from 118 percent in 2011 to 153 percent in 2016 and IPTV (News - Alert) services to increase from 21,000 subscriptions in 2011 to 1.5 million in 2016.

This report was built after the research company took series of case studies on TIM Brazil and Telefonica (News - Alert), two operators at the center of the telecom transformation in Brazil.

Vinicius Caetano, senior analyst at Pyramid Research said that Brazil has been experiencing a significant enrichment of the middle and lower classes, and more and more services are being customized to address that demand. In the the past year, the mobile and pay-TV offers that succeeded the most were those that had a segmentation logic built into their strategies, addressing a portion of the population that before couldn't afford these services.

“The reality of Brazil has changed, and operators need to segment their strategies and adapt to the new characteristics of the demand. With increasing user sophistication, there is no more room for one-size-fits-all strategies,” Caetano added.

The report also talks about the major criteria behind the development of many of the telecom services that Brazilians are now enjoying and also the focus on mobile and pay-TV services, as well as on government initiatives to modernize and liberalize the nation's telecom networks.

Pyramid Research recently released another report, named “LTE (News - Alert) Devices and Applications: Next-generation mobile networks driven by video service”, which predicts that smartphones may be the largest segment by 2014, overtaking PCs.
