Tech Mahindra Selects VPIsystem's OnePlan for IPTV Network Planning and Design Solution

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Tech Mahindra will be using VPIsystems’ fully-integrated, comprehensive flow-through network planning solution, OnePlan. OnePlan will be the base for its IPTV (News - Alert) network planning and design solution which will enable carriers leverage their existing network deployments. This will minimize additional investments made for supporting IPTV.

Global systems integrator Tech Mahindra partnered with VPIsystems to overcome the problems related to preparing networks offering high quality IPTV. The increase in customer demand for services like VoIP and IPTV have driven carriers to implement an IP network. This is an expensive project involving migration of legacy lines and applications to next generation architecture besides other enhancements.

Tech Mahindra based in India is a transformation partner for wireline, wireless and broadband operators in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America. Partnership with British Telecom Tech Mahindra helps companies innovate and transform by leveraging its insights, differentiated services and flexible partnering models.

The layered design of the next-generation networks offers a simpler infrastructure for the new services but the transition will be difficult with challenges for the Quality of Service (QoS) during the time-consuming process. Planning and design become even more difficult with uncertainty regarding IP adoption rates, network scalability, design complexity, deployment cycles, maximizing existing network investments, reducing costs, speeding time to market and also reducing capital expenditure (CAPEX). All these consideration make IPTV roll out complex and challenging.

OnePlan considers current and projected bandwidth requirements, equipment locations, traffic distribution plans and customer profiles to design an end-to-end network which can scale for optimum IPTV services delivery. The solution enables carriers to compare costs to select between options for purchasing equipment needed for the deployment.

Tech Mahindra’s full offering for IPTV helps handle service level management challenges of IPTV services, network planning and network monitoring. It also assists in the auditing and testing process for ensuring reliable delivery of IPTV services.

“Tech Mahindra and VPIsystems were a natural fit to deliver this solution, given our combined history in successful OSS deployments to improve QoS and experience working with Tier 1 service providers,” said Michael Devlin (News - Alert), vice president of business development, VPIsystems.

OnePlan offers a single, cross-domain integrated capacity with respect to geography, technology, discipline and network domain and also network planning capability. Carriers planning for transition to a next-generation , IP-enabled network select OnePlan as its modular design offers scalable solution which can be implemented as a single technology module and then grow to a high-availability system. OnePlan can automate network planning, engineering and decommissioning activities for multiple network layers effectively.

VPI systems provide integrated capacity and network planning software and services for the global telecommunications industry. Its OnePlan software helps telecommunications and multi-service providers plan the financial, technical and marketing features of network evolution for present and future network types. The company serves communications service providers and network equipment manufacturers to decipher current and future capacity needs, and plan their service networks and transport infrastructure.
