Intracom Joins Wightman Telecom for IPTV Solutions
By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Intracom Telecom, a part of Sitronics, has offered its fs|cdn MPEG-4 Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) solution to Canadian-based Wightman Telecom, a 100-year-old company providing voice, data and video services, through its US-based subsidiary, Conklin-Intracom (News - Alert).
Developments in MPEG-4 and high definition (HD) technologies have created huge opportunities for Telcos in seeking to provide video to a customer base eager for new choices. Delivering these solutions to a dynamic market, which continues to grow in response to customer demand for voice/data and video services to the home, is exciting for operators, says the company.
Wightman Telecom, which has presence in a number of cities and towns in central Ontario, has chosen Greece-based Intracom Telecom’s fs|cdn MPEG-4 IPTV (News - Alert) delivery solution to serve communities in Bruce, Grey, Huron, Wellington and Perth Ontario.
“We are excited to further grow our clientele with quality customers such as Wightman Telecom,” said David Hunt, VP fs|cdn Americas for Conklin-Intracom, in a statement.
He continued, “Developments in MPEG-4 and HD technologies have created sizeable opportunities for Telcos seeking to provide video to a quite demanding customer base; a challenge we look forward to achieve.”
Wightman Telecom has opted for two technologies -- fiber to the home (FTTH) and xDSL -- for reaching its customers. Recently, Pannaway (News - Alert) Networks, supplier of next generation Ethernet/IP multi-service access platforms for telecommunications service providers, announced that Wightman Telecom has selected its Service Convergence (News - Alert) Network architecture to complete its last-mile network transformation from twisted-pair copper to FTTH.
The company, which has a strong triple-play focus, has started deploying IPTV services to customers that are reached with its new fiber to the home initiative, as well as those served through existing copper infrastructure via xDSL. Initial marketing efforts estimate the company may expect to receive 50 percent penetration over the first year.
Selection of Intracom Telecom (News - Alert), a developer and producer of telecommunication systems as well as provider of integrated solutions and professional services to fixed and mobile operators in the EEMEA region, was based on the company’s achievements. Over 100 customers in more than 50 countries choose Intracom Telecom for its products and solutions.
