Sling.com Joins the On-Demand Video Entertainment Bandwagon
By Anita B., TMCnet Contributor
On-demand video entertainment just got a shot in the arm with one more destination to choose from. Sling Media, a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation announced the public launch of Sling.com, an online video entertainment destination.
Sling.com offers its users a selection of clips, TV shows, films, news and sports in high quality, for free, anytime they want. This includes video programming from over 90 content providers spanning 150 content brands.
“Sling.com is a wonderful combination of premium video content, television viewing, robust editorial and consumer-friendly access and socialization features,” said Jason Hirschhorn, President, Sling Media Entertainment Group. “Users will have a blast watching great clips, full length shows and movies while customizing the viewing experience to their liking.”
The features of this newly launched channel include robust editorial programming; the editorial team creates a range of content including blogs, playlists and clip collections. It offers socialization features – so users can subscribe to any channel, show or user to create a feed of programming and activity that reflects your personal tastes and those of your social network.
Also, for the first time, Slingbox owners can now access and view their home television (cable, satellite receiver) and DVR via the Sling.com website, making their Slingboxes available without a software client download.
“Our mission from day one was to enable access to content regardless of screen or source. We Media will continue to link and meld video solutions from the television, computer and mobile device to create seamless experiences for consumers,” said Blake Krikorian (News - Alert), co-founder and CEO of Sling Media.
This first look at Sling.com found the video portal to be quite successful. According to the review, Sling.com is a well-stocked video portal to streamable TV content from a plethora of partners. The report goes on to say that Sling.com was found to be a “generally pleasant experience”.
The site design is gorgeous and intuitive, the reviewers note and while Sling.com “may not hold a candle to Hulu when it comes to sheer volume or selection, the Live TV feature and its integration with the Slingbox is sure to turn more than a few heads and move some units”.
