Bouygues Telecom Deploys Verimatrix VCAS for IPTV

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Bouygues Telecom has become the latest network operator in France to deploy the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV (News - Alert).

VCAS for IPTV is a downloadable, content security system for IPTV. It allows for renewable security software to be updated as required to combat piracy attacks.

Additionally, it ensures complete transparency for legitimate content consumption while raising the level of protection against sophisticated forms of piracy.

Through ASDL to the Bbox home gateway, launched in October 2008, Bouygues
Telecom said that it’s securing its MPEG-4 live broadcast and on-demand video content. The company deployed an IPTV system combining the services delivered by two major head-ends in France.

The TV channel lineup combines several free-to-air and premium pay channels, including the main provider of premium channels in the French market.

Company officials said that due to VCAS for IPTV’s smart integration capabilities, Bouygues Telecom is able to market the solution in an “extremely short timeframe.”

The company deployed Verimatrix's (News - Alert) software-based content security solution due to its “innovative roadmap, a fast time-to-market and advanced security capabilities.”

Steve Oetegenn (News - Alert), chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix, said that VCAS' inherent flexibility enables Bouygues Telecom to leverage its advanced network for future video distribution business models.

Bouygues Telecom is a substantial operator in a very competitive IPTV market, he said, adding that Verimatrix was able to “cost effectively” deliver the solution, which easily integrates with the Bbox home gateway.

Verimatrix claims to set the standard for software-based content security and revenue enhancement technologies in pay-TV networks, with a customer base of service providers.

In December 2008, the company expanded its presence in Asia-Pacific by opening its new regional headquarters in Singapore.

In September 2008, it introduced VCAS for DVB 2.0 solution, which extends the reach of its multiple-layered security architecture to digital broadcast content in satellite, cable and terrestrial broadcast networks.
