BigBand Takes IP Video Delivery to the Next Level
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
BigBand Networks, provider of network solutions designed to make it easier to move, manage and monetize video, has reportedly announced it finished a number of key integrations to its solution that will enhance secure delivery of IP video to multiple devices.
The company said that it has designed its vIP PASS solution to help cable operators offer a rich array of linear and on-demand video IP services at a fraction of the cost of CMTS-based delivery without compromising the customer viewing experience. The BigBand vIP PASS solution lets cable operators compete and monetize game changing video IP delivery.
VIP PASS ‘wraps’ video in DOCSIS, the industry’s signaling standard, so providers can deliver video streams to IP-enabled cable modems without transiting a CMTS. Not only is this more economical, but it also ensures no disruption in their current broadband services, minimizing service calls and churn. And the result is providers get to have a smarter IPTV (News - Alert) solution.
The company has now integrated this solution with major chipset, cable modem, and digital rights management technology providers. These integrations will help chart out a new end-to-end vIP PASS IP video delivery solution which can use existing infrastructures to deliver video services to a broad range of customer devices and screens.
VIP PASS has been added with Widevine’s (News - Alert) multiplatform, multiformat DRM and Video Optimization technology so that it can deliver high quality premium content in a secure way and on the consumer premise equipment side, vIP PASS has been integrated with numerous DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems and gateway technologies including NETGEAR, Mplus Technology Co., Hitron Technologies, SerComm, and DOCSIS 3.0 chipsets from Texas Instruments (News - Alert) and other major chipset manufacturers.
BigBand has also said that it has worked with diverse ecosystem and network partners to design a simplified approach that will ease the transition from standard to high definition video services.
John Holobinko, vice president of marketing at BigBand Networks (News - Alert) said that IPTV is not about the technology, rather it’s about the underlying promise of being able to easily move video to multiple destinations securely and cost-effectively, be it TV services to the PC or PC content to the TV or mobile devices. BigBand is pleased to work with other technology companies to forge an open systems approach to DOCSIS 3.0-based IP video delivery that is seamless, protected and compatible with the latest cable modem technology that cable operators will deploy into millions of homes.
BigBand recently chose NaviSite to manage Hyperion applications and Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable deployed BigBand’s switched digital video.
