HTC Deploys SeaChange and RGB to Offer More HD Programming to Cable TV Subscribers
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
Horry Telephone Cooperative (HTC (News - Alert)), a provider of telephone service to the residents of Horry County, South Carolina, which includes the towns of Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach and Conway, has reportedly chosen the services of RGB and SeaChange to offer more high-definition (HD) programming to its cable TV subscribers and also realize new revenue by inserting ads from local advertisers into its programming.
RGB is a dealer in network video processing and SeaChange is a provider of software applications, services and integrated solutions for video-on-demand (VOD), digital advertising, and content acquisition monetization and management.
HTC offers its cable TV service via its own hybrid fiber coaxial network and claims that it continuously finds newer means to upgrade its cable network to offer latest cable broadband services, including HDTV and video-on-demand (VOD).
HTC officials say they are able to stay atop amidst the stiff competition from others through constantly adding more services and ensuring a superior customer experience. The products offered through the partnership of RGB and SeaChange -- in particular the Broadcast Network Processor (News - Alert) and Spot system -- play critical roles in this effort, enabling HTC to offer more HDTV and to carry ads from local advertisers, which adds to their bottom line.
RGB claims its Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) delivers the industry’s highest density digital video processing solution for grooming, statistical multiplexing, transrating, digital program insertion (DPI) and digital overlays. The company built the solution on its flexible, scalable and modular platform and has enabled it to simplify and expedite deployments of advanced video services, ease operation and management, and reduce operational and capital costs. HTC has deployed this BNP to offer its subscribers more HD.
According to SeaChange, the SeaChange Spot System is an automated solution for reliable advertising insertion at the lowest operational expense and highest quality. Using spots loaded through an encoding station and schedules provided from ad traffic and billing system, the Spot System completes every task necessary for fulfillment without operator intervention. Both the BNP and Spot system will help HTC perform seamless, automated ad insertion in addition to several other capabilities.
In addition to the BNP, HTC has also deployed RGB’s Simulcast Edge Processor (SEP) and Modular Media Converter (MMC) products in its cable network as part of its comprehensive network upgrade.
Recently SeaChange unveiled a new residential-based hospitality television system -- and RGB Networks upgraded its dynamic bandwidth manager to support MPEG- 4/H.264s.
