By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Harmonic Inc. and Falcon IP/Complete have announced that Butler-Bremer Communications, an Iowa-based cable and telecommunications service provider has chosen the IP/Complete “bird to box” video solution and Harmonic’s Direct-2 Edge or D2E solution.

The Harmonic/Falcon cable IPTV (News - Alert) solution helps Butler-Bremer to provide a comprehensive service lineup to its customers. Butler-Bremer operates an IPTV service on its existing telephone network infrastructure and fiber-to-the-home or FTTH network.

“Our overall goal is to provide a unique IPTV service via multiple distribution networks like cable TV, Twisted Pair Copper and FTTH. The Falcon IP/Complete total IPTV system and Harmonic’s (News - Alert) Direct-2-Edge solution provide the best option in terms of value, quality and reliability, as well as ease of implementation and operation,” said Richard McBurney, CEO and general manager of Butler-Bremer.

The Falcon IP/Complete IPTV delivery system includes content aggregation from satellites and routers, integration with middleware and delivery over copper, fiber and coax up to the set top box.

With the solution, it will be possible for Butler-Bremer to deliver video service to its exchange at Shell Rock employing FTTH and copper networks and help to deliver video service to cable TV exchanges over the coaxial plant.

“High quality IPTV solutions are important to offer independent telcos in North America the opportunity to provide competitive video services to their subscribers, and we are proud to add Butler-Bremer to our list of customers,” said Donald R. Cook, president and CEO of Falcon IP/Complete.
