AT&T Expands its U-verse TV Lineup to Include Five New High Definition Channels

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

AT&T has reportedly expanded its AT&T (News - Alert) U-verse TV channel lineup to include five new High Definition (HD) channels and new international programming channels for Filipino and Cantonese viewers. A leading provider of wireless, Wi-Fi, high speed Internet and voice services, AT&T also offers advanced TV services under the AT&T U-verse and AT&T | DIRECTV brands.

With the latest additions, the U-verse HD channel lineup will now offer more than 115 HD channels. AT&T U-verse has launched more than 60 channels this year, including 30 HD channels. It is possible for U-verse TV customers to choose from a variety of in-language programming options. These include packages for Spanish, Filipino, Japanese, French, Polish, Russian, Vietnamese, Korean and South Asian viewers.

In a release, Dan York (News - Alert), executive vice president of content and programming at AT&T Converged Services, said since customers expect the best when it comes to HD, AT&T continues to add more HD to its lineup. The new channels help AT&T with important strategic content initiatives and give U-verse TV customers access to more HD channels than its cable peers.

U-verse TV HD customers now have access to Cartoon Network HD, MSNBC HD and TV One HD. In addition, HD Premium Tier subscribers can now access WFN, the World Fishing Network HD. U-verse HD customers will also be able to receive access to TBN HD on Dec. 15. Depending on their programming package, customers will receive these channels as part of their existing HD service subscription.

AT&T has also added VivaTV Plus as part of the Filipino Package. The channel features 24-hour Filipino-language programming, including the latest and most popular movies, concerts, TV series and more from the Philippines. In addition, TVBe is now available for Cantonese viewers for $17 a month. The channel contains up-to-the minute entertainment news reports, same-day news from Hong Kong, drama programs and a variety of magazine shows encompassing various topics.

AT&T U-verse TV is the only 100 percent Internet Protocol-based television (IPTV (News - Alert)) service offered by a national service provider. In fact, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 and 2009 Residential Television Service Provider Satisfaction Studies, AT&T U-verse TV was ranked 'Highest in Customer Satisfaction in the South and West Regions Two Years in a Row.'
