Cox (News - Alert) Communications, a broadband communications and entertainment company, has reportedly entered into an agreement with NBC Universal (News - Alert) to offer expanded coverage to consumers for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games via their multiplatform content offering.
Additionally, the company will offer content from the Vancouver Games across multiple digital platforms, including high-definition networks, On Demand offerings and online content and the company has claimed that the 2010 Vancouver event will be the first Winter Olympic Games that will be entirely available in HD.
Cox officials said the company is pleased to offer NBC Universal’s coverage of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games in HD and on-demand at no extra cost to the consumer. Cox’s cable customers with at least the Expanded Basic tier of service will be able to access 835 hours of HD programming, everything from the Opening Ceremony of the games on Feb. 12 to the Closing Ceremony on Feb. 28.
Customers have access to the most Winter Olympic coverage ever via NBC Universal's family of networks, including NBC, USA Network, MSNBC, Universal HD, and CNBC. Consumers with a high speed internet connection can choose to watch the sporting events from the newly commissioned NBC Olympics site. The site offers event recaps, highlights, in-depth reports, and other features in HD and makes use of Microsoft (News - Alert) Silverlight player for efficient streaming.
In addition to the television content available on the networks of NBC Universal and via Cox's On DEMAND library, NBC has expanded its coverage of the Games by providing online access to more than 1,000 hours of premium video including live streaming, full event rewinds and more.
Cox has claimed that television networks can achieve effective reach and frequency to their audience through the excitement of sports programming and Cox Media is the best suited connection to local advertising with a variety of collegiate and professional sports.
