Okemos School District Leverages PEG Central Web Video Streaming Portal
By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor
The Okemos School District announced that it leveraged Web technology to inform and query district parents.
LEIGHTRONIX, Inc.’s “PEG Central” Web video streaming portal was recently utilized to help conduct an online survey. This, in turn, helped the Okemos School District deliver a vital meeting presentation to district-area parents.
Precisely, the online survey that was sent out to parents by e-mail contained a link to the district’s PEG Central streaming site, which enabled the parents to view an online, on-demand video of a presentation to the board of education on a proposed professional development program for the district.
Designed for cities, towns, municipalities, school districts, and communities, the PEG Central helps in delivering video programming. Account holders of PEG Central will be able to receive a custom Web site for displaying videos.
Additionally, the PEG Central seamlessly integrates with LEIGHTRONIX broadcast systems, thereby enabling account holders to optimize thier videos for streaming.
According to officials at Okemos School District, the video was vital to the success of the online survey, because few parents were not able to attend the board meeting.
With the help of this video, parents could view the meeting on demand as well as educate themselves instantly on the topic of interest before submitting answers on the survey.
Officials said that the video presentation was originally broadcast live on local educational access, Okemos Channel 23, during a regular board of education meeting.
The meeting was digitally captured for rebroadcast on the channel. Then, it was sent to the district’s on-demand video streaming site hosted by pegcentral’s website. The video would remain on the streaming site for review anytime, anywhere. This will provide consistent access to the information presented.
According to the Okemos School District, more than 700 parents had reviewed the video content on pegcentral.com website in a span of one week.
“Providing a link to the presentation right on the survey was a great success,” said Patty Trelstad, assistant Superintendent of Okemos Public Schools. “Over half of those who answered the survey responded that they received the information from our PEG Central site. To me that shows a success in keeping the public informed and generating real-time feedback by using video technology.”
In addition, the Okemos School District leverages the PEG Central site to provide the public with on-demand sporting events, cultural events, and the district’s own student-produced programming.
The PEG Central site also allows viewers to subscribe through an RSS feed. According to officials with LEIGHTRONIX, the PEG Central has proved to be an essential tool that emphasizes the power of video and the convenience of video-on-demand for the staff, residents, and students at Okemos Public Schools.
