ARRIS Adds Ad Splicing to VIPr Transcoder

By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributor

ARRIS has reportedly added ad splicing capability to its EGT VIPr Transcoder product line – making it possible to dynamically insert advertisements into broadcast programming as per the SCTE 30 and 35 specifications.

What makes ARRIS 'intelligent recode' unique is that it provides full decode and re-encode process while maintaining the original encoding parameters of the program and ad content, thereby producing the highest video quality.

Moreover, the Integrated Closed-loop Statistical Multiplexing eliminates the need to under-provision QAMs, assuring maximum bandwidth efficiency. Plus, the feature offers unlimited concurrent splices, allowing ads to be inserted into all SD and HD services simultaneously.

The 'Intelligent Recode' also offers advertisers the ability to maintain high video quality as programming transitions between ads and show content.

"ARRIS' VIPr ad-splicing feature ups the ante over previous generations of ad splicing technologies currently on the market," said Bruce McClelland, president, Broadband Communications Group for ARRIS.

"The ARRIS Intelligent Recode feature can provide noticeably superior video quality during ad transitions, which is a significant benefit for cable operators, advertisers and viewers at home."
