Cincinnati Bell Deploys Motorola MR-DVR Solutions to Its Subscribers

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Integrated communications solutions provider Cincinnati Bell has deployed the Motorola (News - Alert) multi-room digital video recorder (MR-DVR) solution to its customers.

According to Motorola, the Motorola whole-home DVR set-up uses Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) technology to connect up to eight DVR and non-DVR HD set-top boxes and aggregate the content on any home set-top. This enables Cincinnati Bell (News - Alert) subscribers to pause with the live TV, record and play back content, and manage their aggregate recorded library and DVR settings on any set-top in the home, even if it is not a DVR set-top.

Vice President and General Manager of Cincinnati Bell's Wireline Services, Darrick Zucco, said  that winning new video subscribers is becoming more challenging as new competition emerges. Their subscribers expect them to deliver high quality content and innovative services, and this latest MR-DVR solution from Motorola allows them to do that. Motorola's solution also offers them a cost-effective way to quickly extend their brand while offering service packages that appeal to broader audiences, which helps grow their business.

Motorola's MR-DVR solution helps service providers to deliver cost effective hardware and software solutions that brings the extraordinary experience of multi-room DVR solution to their customers. The MR-DVR is a flexible, home media sharing solution that provides multi-room access from a single DVR set-top and is so scalable and extensible to deploy a basic multi-room DVR solution utilizing set-tops, user interfaces, and current interactive program guides. This architecture also provides a path for growth to advanced services and capabilities using downloadable software technologies.

Vice President and General Manager of Motorola Mobile Devices and Home, Larry Robinson, added that Motorola's recent Media Engagement Barometer research shows that consumer demand for access to video content anywhere and at anytime has been increasing tremendously. As a result, service providers such as Cincinnati Bell must find new ways to deliver advanced video services that keep them competitive while meeting consumers' expectations.

Motorola has claimed that the television industry is moving into the "Internet Era of TV," and Motorola's rich history of innovation and demonstrated leadership is ideal for helping service providers make the transition.
